It is hard to sort through all the health and wellness advice floating around. It is harder to understand that our government leaders and entities are not there to protect or educate the consumer. They are driven by election contributions and pleasing lobbyists and big business. Enough of the political rant….the bottom line is nobody is looking out for your health and wellness but you…..so you better get and stay informed. There are a lot of good resources and responsible food providers, you just have to know how to find them. This page has links to resources to help you stay informed and live well.
As a yoga teacher and bodyworker clients often ask me for food advice. The advice I give is this:
-EAT REAL FOOD-Avoid processed food almost all the time
-BUY ORGANIC PRODUCE (or at least focus on these top offenders)
-USE HEALTHY OILS-there are differing opinions on this, but generally stick with Olive Oil and Coconut Oil
-FOCUS ON FRUITS & VEGETABLES-make these the main part of your meal
-KNOW WHICH FISH ARE HEALTHY & SUSTAINABLE.
-EAT HEALTHY FISH-this is a tricky one with lots of different opinions. I choose Wild Caught Salmon, Halibut or Black Cod. Tilapia which is used all over the place is a wasteland of nutrients, poor farming techniques and overall a bad choice.
-EAT HEALTHY PROTEINS-Organic Chicken, Organic Grass Fed Beef, Organic Eggs and Organic Dairy Products
